Borussia Dortmund vs Barcelona
Date: Tuesday, 17 September 2019
Kick-off at 20:00 UK / 21:00 CET
Venue: Signal Iduna Park (Dortmund)
Borussia Dortmund have begun the German Bundesliga in decent form, though it will be the one strike against them that will sting most. They have been mostly perfect, but a loss against Union Berlin, an inexplicable one to a promoted side, will really hurt them as they chance an avenue to capture the Bundesliga crown away from Bayern for a change. They did bounce back in a big way against Leverkusen and sit in second, so that is also on the table for them at the moment.
Barcelona have had to start the La Liga season without Lionel Messi, and it has shown. They have looked disjointed at times, and that’s something we’re very much unaccustomed to seeing from them. They have dropped points twice in four outings, with one of them being a loss on the opening day away from home. They are far from the perfect side they used to be, but even when they look against the ropes, they can claw out of the corner and bite you.
In Europe, it’s Barcelona that have been the more successful of late. Dortmund did not play very well last season, getting bounced in the group stage and then not even going on to do much in the Europa League. Barcelona, for the second year in a row, had a big lead going into an away leg in the knockout rounds and were eliminated. They, however, have generally done just fine in the group, so it’s a little perplexing.
